Drake Joins Justin Bieber Onstage At Juno Awards

Although he walked away empty-handed from Canada’s Juno Awards on Sunday, Justin Bieber’s performance of “Baby” stole the show when fellow Canuck Drake took to the stage, joining him in a surprise appearance.

“I got some big surprises tonight for you,” Bieber tweeted before the show began — and a big surprise it was. Bieber’s performance was an acoustic rendition of the hit from his recent My World 2.0 LP (currently the #1 album on the Billboard U.S. albums chart), featuring a group of singers and a guitarist, with Drake rapping in place of Ludacris’ original (although Drake does appear in the song’s video).

“Please put away the cameras, we just in the club getting MC-hammered,” Drake rapped. “God forbid I ever trade the wisdom for the glamour/ I know I’m just a boy that a woman could make a man of/ So make me one, I know that she could make me one/ I just want a woman that looks 30 when she’s 81/ Please don’t give it all away, I hope that she could save me some/ Justin, why don’t you tell them where your baby’s from?”

Although Bieber lost two awards to Michael Bublé (Pop Album of the Year and Album of the Year) and one to Drake (Best New Artist), he and Drizzy took the stage again for the show’s big finale, a performance of K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag.” K’naan, who was born in Somalia but resides in Canada, won the Artist of the Year award.

The performances weren’t the only surprising dynamic of the night: The show was held in the city of St. John’s on the Eastern Canadian island of Newfoundland, and ashes from the eruptions of Iceland’s Mt. Eyjafjallajokull volcano were causing flights to be canceled.

“This is crazy,” Bieber tweeted. “The cloud from the volcano in Iceland is almost here and they are cancelling all the flights … everyone is trying to leave.”

However, the ash clouds luckily did not interrupt Bieber’s travel plans, nor his habit of tweeting to fans.

“Getting all the tweets showing love and support 2night. Thanks … I got the greatest fans in the world. And yeah .. we r getting off this island.” On Monday (April 19), the singer tweeted that he was en route to Japan and Australia.
