Paramount preps 3D biopic on Justin Bieber

An earlier Examiner report on a possible Justin Bieber 3D concert film was apparently just half the story. Word is Paramount just sealed the deal for a 3D picture based on the pop singer's life story starring the pop superstar himself!

First news of his photographic memoir and now this latest missive on how Justin Bieber fever is raging out of control!

Industry sources had first indicated that Paramount Pictures was contemplating a 3D concert starring the pop superstar for release later this year. Turns out that was just part of the story. Deadline.com has just broken the exclusive that the studio is actually turning Bieber's life story into a big budget, 3D biopic! And, he will be starring in the film as himself.

Paramount looks to engage Davis Guggenheim, the Oscar winning director behind "An Inconvenient Truth," to helm the untitled project. Concert footage shot on Bieber's current tour will be featured in the film, which is slated for release on February 11, 2011. (Yes, that's on Valentine's Day weekend.) Bieber's manager Scooter Braun and Island Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid will produce the picture.

While currently riding the crest of popularity, can the life of a 16 year-old sensation really fill the necessary six reels or so of filmed entertainment? Perhaps. Look at the math: He's the most watched recording artist on YouTube with 270 million views alone for his recent "Baby" video. And, as Deadline.com points out, industry pundits believe the recent mega-opening of "The Karate Kid" had more to do with Bieber's video of the film's title track with Jaden Smith than anything else.

Bieber fever, indeed.
