A group of Seminole High School students got a surprise today — 16-year-old pop wunderkind Justin Bieber, fresh off an Orlando show, showed up at an assembly.
Justin Bieber, who performed at Orlando’s Amway Arena in a sold-out concert Wednesday night, presented the school with a $5,000 donation from Best Buy and the Grammy Foundation. The money will be used on the school’s music program.
He had a music-loving audience: The students at the Sanford school were there as part of a summer band camp.
“The students had no idea I was coming, and it was fun to completely surprise them,” Bieber said in a statement. “I was excited about this opportunity to team up with Best Buy and the Grammy Foundation to raise awareness around the important cause of funding music education programs in schools. I talked to students about pursuing their passion in music and encouraging them to keep doing what they’re doing.”
The program expands on the Grammy Foundation’s support of music education by teaming with Best Buy’s philanthropic efforts and Best Buy Mobile resources. Through these efforts, the Best Buy Children’s Foundation has pledged nearly $1 million in funds and in-kind services to at-risk music education programs in schools across the country.
“It was great to genuinely stun the kids with a surprise appearance from Justin Bieber,” said Best Buy Mobile president Shawn Stone. “Justin is an influential musician and role model, and to have him take part in this event demonstrates the significance of supporting music and arts education programs in schools and the positive impact music has on today’s youth.”
Bieber’s special appearance was part of a weeklong celebration for Best Buy Mobile in the Orlando area. Best Buy Mobile’s milestone 100th store opened Wednesday at Seminole Towne Center mall, located near the school.
